The Pong Dam was built on the Beas River in 1974. The Pong Dam was situated in the District Talwara. The Dam was built to serve the purpose of generating hydroelectricity land irrigation. The raised water level thus invariably created lake which is known as Maharana Pratap Sagar coined after the name of great ruler of Mewar.
The speciality of this lake is that is a Sanctuary to birds of various species included barheaded geese and Red-necked Grebe. The Pong Dam includes the WildLife Sanctuary by the Himachal Pradesh government in the year 1986.
The Dam is situated just 12 kms away from talwara town and easily accessible by bus,car and bike but before visit do make sure that Pong Dam tourism is open, sometimes to raised water level tourism is not open for tourists for their safety. Most of the season it is reachable and open.
Kangra Fort:-
